Late in each game, there are a few interesting choices while trying to mix scoring points on quests with eliminating some of my own characters to slow down a massive scoring engine across the table
For example, with the Final Fantasy VI commander deck, I built it as a black-red-white graveyard deck, but characters like Celes and Gogo would want to be blue if possible
Epic cards have special card frames, textures, and foil to set them apart from standard cards
As with Magic, an ongoing plot takes center-stage to keep dedicated players invested as well (it was apparently the first major work done on Lorcana, with Miller pointing out that the team "wanted to make sure that it didn't feel like we were just putting characters on cards")
Whereas Commander ups players deck sizes and health totals, Lorcana simply opens up the option for attacking different opponents without any other necessary changes
At first I found the terminology, like 'glimmers' and 'lore', a bit hokey, but the idea that you're bringing magical copies of Disney characters to life with ink, is actually pretty neat, and (to me, at least) harkens back to the original hand-drawn animation style of the films
