Sacrificing a creature sounds intimidating until you realize just how good black is at generating token creatures as fodder
This can set up big swings as you can quest and not have to worry about your opponent doing anything for a turn
As for replacing some of your creatures Reveillark is a very good add, and his best friend Karmic Guide feeds into a reanimation package and allows for you to go infinite.Leonin Relic-Warder can generate infinite ETB and LTB effects when it's reanimated by Animate Dead or Necromancy (not the temporary exile effect though, that's used on the enchantment used to reanimate it)
I think there was an immediate understating of what the game is about
