Carpinus japonica 'Chinese Lantern' Malus dom. 'James Grieve' fully double blooms with pureA Dutch selection of this elegant tree with the same graceful spreading habit and distinctly veined leaves, unfolding red and maturing to mid green. What sets this cultivar apart is the size of the pendulous, hop like fruits, which are larger and wider than the species, reminiscent of lanterns as they ripen. Yellow autumn colour. Does well on all well drained soils, but prefers moist, organically rich ground. Tolerates exposure. H6
