Acer carpinifolium Hedge A profusion of white springOriginally from Japan and introduced in 1879, this curious maple resembles a hornbeam, but the opposite leaves and winged fruits (samaras) reveal otherwise. Upright when young, the habit widens with age, becoming beautifully fan shaped. The tapered oval leaves mid green in summer, turning gold and brown in autumn. Great on all well drained soils. H6
