Though they look juicy

Arctostaphylos canescens ssp sonomensis, Manzanita sun or part shade deer resistantSuch lovely, impressionistic silver spears are perfect next to dark mahogany stems and clusters of light pink urn flowers; orange berries follow. A good grower, it's endemic to California, semi coastal and coastal areas from just north of San Francisco to around Eureka. This evergreen shrub grows 4 ft by 4 ft and requires well drained soil. In our experience, this is one of the most difficult manzanitas to get established, but it is worth the effort.
