Amaryllis belladonna - Striped Pink Hybrids, Naked Ladies drought-tolerant dense and intense

dense and intense

spiny dark green leaves (the leaves are those on Corinthian capitals) arch dramatically as a backdrop to huge 5' spikes of pure white flowers hooded in mauve

so place these bulbs near the front of a dry border or walk

This compact and unlikely looking dogwood is quite architectural and would make a good sculptural focal point

Mature size: 2-3 ft T x 3-4 ft W

Amaryllis belladonna - Striped Pink Hybrids, Naked Ladies drought-tolerant dense and intenseAs if by magic in late summer, from bone dry soil, slender, 2' tall, leafless stems develop clusters of striped pink and white trumpets such a trick. Sweetly fragrant! Resents root disturbance. These are grown from seeds in our garden and can take a few years to bloom. It is normal for the foliage to die back in late spring while the bulb goes dormant until the flower stems emerge in late summer. Minimum temperature: 0 F
