By far the best tool for this would be a card like Cathar's Crusade, which puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature whenever another one enters the battlefield under your control, or Katilda, Dawnhart Prime, who lets you put +1/+1 counters on each creature

It's not a surprise that things don't translate well, and my expectations were low to begin with, but ultimately I'm still disappointed
