Sure, its squishy as an 0/1 for three mana, but is anyone really excited about wasting a removal spell on it compared to other, more scary creatures Ill have on the battlefield
The reason this is ahead of the other symmetrical draw spells is that it either generates you mana or costs none once it has resolved thus allowing you first dibs on using the new cards and no disparity in mana

Ertai's whole character revolved around him being good at magic, especially countermagic (his signature flavor text was him taunting people whose spells he had countered) and being very braggadocious about it
