The reason that Pull Up can be useful is that a lot of the best EX cards are based on Legendary and Mythical Pokemon and are thus classed as Basic
For additional card draw we've got Mask of Memory, Jor Kadeen, First Goldwarden, and Sram, Senior Edificer for nice incremental draw, Akiri, Fearless Voyager which doubles as protection, and we've got impulse draw that also makes our creatures more lethal with Neyali, Suns' Vanguard and Kami of Celebration
Either way, you can see that it's very, very hard to pull this off, and in EDH its almost impossible because cards cant have the same name
Elsha of the Infinite uses this strategy to become infinitely large with prowess, while other decks rely on Aetherflux Reservoir as the kill condition
